Watercolour painting holidays in France - Day One

Materials, and Techniques

Day One  - Starting from Scratch.

Holiday day one is spent at the farmhouse, and provides an introduction to materials and techniques. Start from home and become familiar with your equipment and surroundings. Learn about, and try different papers and techniques. Enjoy the view to the black mountains. If you want to, break of for a swim, and enjoy lunch and dinner alfresco.

9:30am

Introduction

Spend some time getting to know the group members and find out what experience people have and what they expect from the holiday.

I will introduce myself and describe how this outdoor watercolour impressionist course is structured  and the real benefits it can bring to your painting experience

10:00am

Materials

We will review all the kit and materials and setup required to help us succeed in our painting activity.

In particular, demonstrations will be used to illustrate the capabilities, merits and properties of different papers, brushes and techniques.

11:30am

Selecting paper

We will all try simple washes on Fabriano Artistico, Arches, Saunders Waterford and Whatman paper

1:00pm

Lunch

Alfresco Lunch

2:30pm

Painting  views from the garden

In the afternoon we will experiment with papers of your choice and a subject you choose.

4:30pm

Relax, visit Revel market town

Relax, read, swim, play pentanque, cycle and unwind in preparation for a great Alfresco dinner.

Alternatively, visit Revel (6 miles from home) and sample a Bastide market town.

7:00pm

Aperitif and Dinner

Unwind and complete your first day with the group  with an Alfresco dinner  on the terrace with great views of the Lauragais and over to the Black Mountains.
